Gordon square GEM !!! No joke pizza with classics to choose from but also more unique choices for the more adventurous. Nice starter options like salads and meat/cheese plates. Swanky bar. Cool art. The decor in one of the dining rooms seems almost like churchy/ religious. Was interesting. Walked in on a Tuesday night and the place was jam packed and saw familiar faces! Always a great sign. Would go back any time.

I did my research on some pizza places in the Cleveland area before visiting in December 2025, and Il Rione came up. When I saw the ratings, I decided to give it a try while I was in Cleveland. On the day I went, one of my closest friends who is from Cleveland happened to be in the area at the same time I was, so we decided to try Il Rione together before having Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream afterward. Parking was a bit tricky, as we were unable to park right in front of the restaurant, but fortunately we found a spot reasonably close, so we did not have to walk too far. When we first walked in, the first thing I noticed was the atmosphere. Not only did the restaurant smell amazing from the baking pizzas, but it was also tastefully decorated for Christmastime and cozy. We were seated immediately, and our server was attentive and helpful, making us feel welcome and even offering suggestions on their best-selling pizzas. I ended up ordering the sausage pizza, and while the pizza as a whole was outstanding, the sauce was the best I have ever had. Whatever their sauce recipe is, it was unbelievable, and it will be difficult to top that particular sauce. My friend enjoyed his pizza

We visited Il Rione for a fun night out and left highly impressed by the kitchen’s flavor profiles, even if a few execution details missed a perfect score. To start, the Arugula Salad was absolutely fantastic. It was incredibly vibrant, full of bright flavor, and the quality of the cheese and nuts elevated it from a standard starter to a standout dish. For the main course, we sampled three pies: the White Pizza with pepperoni, the Green Pie, and the Sausage Pie. The pizza sauces here are spectacular—deep, complex, and packed with punchy flavor. The crust itself has an excellent taste, but it leans very thin. Because of the thinness, the slices struggled a bit with structural integrity, causing the delicious toppings to slide off when picked up. Atmosphere-wise, the space has a great, lively energy that makes for a fun evening. Service was decent, though our server wasn’t quite as attentive as we’d hope when it came to checking in after the initial drink order. Overall, the flavor execution is absolutely there, and it’s a spot we’d definitely recommend for anyone craving great artisan pies in a high-energy environment.

I always look forward to going to this restaurant and it has been my favorite pizza in Cleveland. However, on a recent visit I was sorely disappointed. The crust was burned across the entire pizza bottom. It was like eating cardboard with wonderful toppings. I was sitting near the oven where I could see other pizzas being removed and they were all being burned along the outer crust. I would hope management reads this review and takes an interest in addressing this issue.

The hype is real - Il Rione has one of the best, if not THE best, pizzas in the city! Everything about the pizza was perfect: the NY-style crust was thin and chewy and super flavorful, the toppings were fresh and of the highest quality (the Calabrian chilies in particular were fire), and the ratio of cheese to sauce to bread was spot on. The salads were also pleasantly refreshing... and for what it's worth the Guinness pour was surprisingly respectable. To be fair, the menu was a bit limited compared to other pizzerias, but I'd rather have fewer options executed perfectly than a laundry list of mediocre dishes any day. The dining space was charming in a rustic way, but it got very crowded very quickly - we arrived just after opening on a weekend and were lucky to get a table. Service was great and, especially given the size of the crowd, very prompt; the kitchen was slinging pizzas like nobody's business. Definitely a spot worth coming back.
